LOCALS FROM THE MÄRKISCHES VIERTEL ARE PHILOSOPHIZING. HOW SHOULD WE LIVE (TOGETHER)?

How did it use to be yesterday, how is it today, and how will it be tomorrow? What is moving the inhabitants of the borough Märkisches Viertel and their guests? Is their life changing? Are their values or their dreams changing? How is the social life developing among them?

The artists Katrin Glanz has invited the philosopher Dr. Bertram Lomfeld, professor for Legal Philosophy at the Free University of Berlin and editor of the magazine Polar, to a discussion in the Märkisches Viertel.

They both look forward to a lively dicussion with the people of the borough and their guests.
Questions and suggestions which are emerging during the talk will be visualized simultaneously.

DEAD AND BURIED  – AND GRASS GROWN OVER

25 years ago there was a wall between the West Berlin borough Märkisches Viertel and East Berlin. The border line went right along the borough of Pankow on the Eastern side. What do we still notice about this today? Is the separation over and done with since grass has grown over the former border line? What if sheep came and ate the grass away?
Katrin Glanz uses the anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall as an occasion for an art performance.
On November 9, 2014 sheep are grazing on a large lawn at the former Wall strip. Black ones, white ones.

Location: Former Wall strip Märkischen Viertel/Pankow, on the lawn near Dannenwalder Weg 176, 13439 Berlin.
Sunday, November 9, 2014, 11 am – 3 pm.

Concept and realization: Katrin Glanz
Animals: Agricultural farm Micha Neuendorf, Blankenfelde

The performance is part of VIERTEL BOX events – an initiative of GESOBAU AG and a project of Gust & Grünhagen und relations* Samo Darian, Katrin Glanz, Kerstin Gust, Anna Müller and Katja Sussner.

QUARTER MIXER – Dance on the Lawn

Fewer and fewer people are dancing outdoors. What will happen if one day, in the Berlin borough of Märkisches Viertel, live music suddenly emerges unexpectedly, as it seems?  If people start dancing together and pedestrians are being asked to join in? People will get to know each other. And maybe it’ll be the first time ever for them to dance like this.

The dancer Andrea Hartung and two musicians will set the beat for performing folk dances from Europe: Chain dances, square dances with couples forming circles, participatory dances. Dancing means to connect people – and to open their hearts.

Join in:
All local and visiting dance fans are warmly invited to participate. Join in and dance with us!

What: A dance performance.
Where: In the borough of Märkisches Viertel, on the lawn “am Seggeluchbecken”, close to the address Senftenberger Ring 82/84, 13435 Berlin.
In case it’s raining: Protestant Church community building, Finsterwalder Str. 66.
When: Sunday, 28 September 2014, 3 – 6 pm.

Concept and realization: Katrin Glanz

QUARTER CAKE – The Homemade Quarter
A Participatory Art Performance

The Berlin borough Märkisches Viertel has been given a new logo – a circle with a cut-out piece the size of a quarter. It’s evocative of a piece of cake. How could a real cake for Märkisches Viertel look like? Katrin Glanz invites the inhabitants of Märkisches Viertel to bake a cake. High-piled, flat, colorful, sprinkled, painted, covered, built-upon – there is no limit to creativity! One afternoon, all cakes will be presented on a long table. The three most beautiful ones will be awarded.

Date: 29 June 2014, 3 pm
Location: VIERTEL BOX, Wilhelmsruher Damm (opposite Märkisches Zentrum), 13439 Berlin

VIERTEL BOX is an initiative of GESOBAU AG and a project of Gust & Grünhagen and relations* Samo Darian, Katrin Glanz, Kerstin Gust, Anna Müller und Katja Sussner
